Goal Setting Tip-Avoid What Stops 97% From Success
“If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves.”
–Thomas Edison
It is often referred to as “the extra mile,” or “the last mile.” It doesn’t really matter what you call it, it is the graveyard of dreams. It is the time when you are most vulnerable to quitting. After all, your “pretty good” rather than great at what you do, your relationships are “OK” rather than fantastic, and your financial situation allows you to pay the bills, but lacks abundance. This is where 97% stumble. This is where 97% stop. You see, that extra mile, that last mile is the difference between mediocrity and greatness. Right now, most of you are already thinking about “why” you have so far refused to step out and seek greatness. In other words, you are already pulling out the excuses. “I don’t have time.” “I don’t have the money.” “What if it doesn’t work?” “Maybe it does work for some, but it won’t work for me.”
If it is any comfort, you are among the majority. The vast majority. The 97% who will muddle through life in mediocrity or worse. The 97% who will be victims rather than victors. I think however, that this is one majority that you don’t want to be a part of. Sadly, most of what we know about success has been ingrained in us since we were children. We began as bright eyed children who when asked what we wanted to be when we grow up answered with “an astronaut,” or “the president.” We rightly knew then that anything was possible.
Unfortunately, many well-meaning people in our lives slowly but surely programmed us to the contrary. Your teachers, your family, your friends. You learned most of what you know about life from one of these three places. One thing is for sure, almost everything they taught you about how to be financially independent and to live an abundant life is probably wrong. Don’t believe me? How many of them are living the abundant life?
If you want to be great, you’ll need exposure to a different mindset. A different set of tools. A different set of strategies. Again, if you don’t believe me, look at those who you allow to influence you now and ask yourself, “Have I achieved all I am capable of? Am I living in abundance? Is this REALLY all I want out of life?” Only you can answer for you. Only you can change your current course. Only you can take action. “Action may not always bring true happiness, but there is NEVER true happiness without action.”—Benjamin Disraeli
