Aspartame Side Effects - Are You Sick Or Just Toxic?

Aspartame first arrived with FDA approval in 1981. And today is in many of the foods and drinks you regularly purchase. This chemical sweetener, also sold by the trade names, Nutrisweet and Equal, breaks down into aspartic acid, phenylalanine and methanol. Methanol breaks down further into formaldehyde.

Formaldehyde is found in embalming fluid. Ouch. This chemical is digested by the human body then circulates through the entire body. The byproducts then deposit in the tissues and create an array of symptoms.

The cumulative effects of this chemical has assaulted our health and health care systems. The damage caused by this man made food additive is seen to affect every body system…

The toxicity of aspartame is the root cause of these problems. So to actually find a disease and identify it, may not happen. You see, with no actual disease process occurring, tests could very well come back negative. The solution is to remove the toxic source and with that the symptoms would subside if not completely vanish.

Children and older adults are the most vulnerable to the effects of any poison. By FDA records, the number one source of aspartame with the most complaints is soda pop. The FDA has classed this chemical as \’generally regarded as safe\’ or GRAS.

That is not too surprising. After all, saying you were wrong is probably one of the hardest things you have ever done. So, what do you think the chances are that the FDA would say they were in error?

You don\’t have to worry about the world wide economy or even the food industry when you decide what to eat or feed your family. All you have to concern yourself with is what is best for your family.

Alright, what can you do…

1. Stop consuming Aspartame on an immediate basis.

2. Ban this chemical from your home.

3. You can assist your body to heal by eating organic food whenever possible.<br.

4. Additionally, you could take nutritional supplements to aid the healing.

5. Check your child\’s chewable vitamins to ensure this is not in it.

6. Check your infant\’s formula. Discard any that has this toxin.

7. Get your health back and be sure to tell others the changes you made.

This additive has demonstrated what a successful ad campaign can do. So, don\’t be hard on yourself for not knowing these facts. Start fresh from here, taking a sensible approach to change that will put you on track to lifelong health.

Red Wine and Saying Grace

Of my first memories of red wine are happy church memories from my childhood. I grew up Roman Orthodox in the loving Jaffa tradition, luckily far removed from the strict Catholic church. But we did have communion, and confession. After confessing my yummy teenage kiss-and-tell to a priest I could not see in the dark but could imagine (and imagine I did), I would be rewarded with a sip of wine and some delicious bread. Life was good.

So after reading of my lewd exploits, you may be thinking this is the connection between wine and prayer. Alas, it was a red herring; a distraction. So… What does red wine have to do with saying grace?

Some of us have been brought up to say grace at the table before we eat our food. For me personally, this was not mandatory, and I remember thinking it was all silly. Why say thanks to God before you eat? Why not just pray in church or at night? I was told that it was to show gratitude. But we surely must eat and surely food is like any other basic need? Surely it is not worthy of gratitude.

Some of us have been through spiritual training where we are taught to bless our food. Go to any gathering of Reiki healers, and you will see some doing Reiki on their food before eating it. I used to watch whilst stifling a giggle. It seemed so bizarre, like an alternative religion.

Going back further in time, there are many pagan and other prayer rituals for food. Clearly, you might say, this is a tradition that has endured the passage of time. And it can be found everywhere.

This suggests that there is a benefit to be enjoyed. And it begs the question of why bless food?

Although 21st-century science is cash-starved and cannot keep up with discoveries, I feel it worthwhile to make use of some harmless insights. Modern energy psychology or meridian therapy methods have unveiled some interesting connections between your mealtimes and your state of being. To put it simply, that prayer or blessing is a way of helping your body to be more in tune with the food.

I have done many workshops and one-to-one treatments involving food. And I have found out an interesting thing. This is very pronounced when doing EFT or Allergy Antidotes. Somehow the treatment works with your body. This seems to consider your actual nutritional needs and your physical and emotional well-being.

I have found that with energy psychology:
Foods that are harmful to you at that particular moment in time will become disgusting.
Foods that are good for you at that particular moment in time will become delicious
If your body is capable of overcoming an allergy-like reaction to that food at that time, the food will be tasty and will produce no or minimal side effects.
If your body is incapable of overcoming allergy-like reactions to that food at that time, then you will no longer want it.
If you had not eaten for half a day or longer, the food may become irresistible even if it is somewhat bad for you.
Overeating will not happen.

The only condition to this working is that it is applied skillfully and all possibilities treated.

Ideally, you should have a few sessions with an experienced practitioner. Alternatively, you can use EFT tapping before each meal for two weeks and see how you feel.

So now I understand why you can bless your food. Frankly, I have no time to do this with every meal, but I, like you, do my own personal best. Whatever works for you is fine.

Gourmet Foods Are Everywhere

The number of companies selling items labeled “gourmet” is increasing rapidly, particularly gourmet food items. At one time, getting gourmet food meant going to an expensive, upscale restaurant and giving over a week\’s worth of pay for your dinner! Now, you can get gourmet foods from your local grocery store and from countless online retailers, and even through several direct sales companies who come into your home to give taste testing parties for you and your friends. Home taste testing parties are extremely fun and you get to try the foods before you buy, which makes it easier to decide what you want.

What exactly is “gourmet” food, and how is it that everything from soup to nuts to brownies have been given the label “gourmet”? The actual definition of the word gourmet isn\’t food at all; it\’s: a person who is devoted to refined sensuous enjoyment, especially good food and drink. We typically refer to foods themselves as gourmet now, rather than the people who enjoy these good edibles!

“Gourmet” seems to have become the catch-all phrase used to describe foods that taste good, and that are considered to be of higher than average quality. We also might label foods gourmet if they are hard to find.

Does your grocery store offer gourmet-to-go? These are dinners you can take home and serve instantly- that are designed to taste like you made it yourself. Roasted chicken and seafood dinners are commonly offered through the grocery gourmet food section. Gourmet in this case simply means it\’s going to taste good- and the idea is it\’s better than your typical fast food stop.

Actually, gourmet foods are all around us, and they give us great and simple gift giving opportunities! People often bring food to house warming parties, or to give the host when invited to dinner. Grab a gift basket of gourmet goodies and your host will be extremely appreciative of the gesture. If you bring dessert items, you may even get to taste them after dinner is served!

Packaged gourmet foods, like nuts, snacks and cheese make great gifts for all types of occasions. They typically come pre-packaged in attractive packaging, and many can be found in gift baskets which saves you time since you don\’t have to wrap them before giving.

Some foods labeled gourmet are actually boxed mixes that you then add other ingredients to, or cook with, in order to create the finished product. You can find gourmet brownie mixes, sauces and marinades, and even soups. A popular cooking show on the food network often uses these packaged items to make “almost homemade” meals- but the use of these gourmet packaged goods make it much faster to bring the dinner to the table- giving you more time to enjoy with your family and less time standing in the kitchen.

From coffee to dessert- and everything in between, you can now enjoy gourmet versions of all your favorite foods simply by looking up gourmet foods online or making a quick stop to your local grocery store\’s gourmet section.

The Dark Side Of White Chocolate

The world loves chocolate. Chocolate companies measure the amount of cocoa beans they grind up, and have found that human beings consume about three billion pounds of the stuff each year. Most chocolate is eaten in cool climates; in the tropics, it\’s too steamy to keep chocolate solid and fresh.

But ironically, it\’s in the tropics that chocolate originates. Chocolate is made from the ground-up beans (also called seeds) of the cacao tree, which grows in places like Brazil, Ghana and Nigeria. A cacao tree stands about 7.5 meter high when fully grown and sports small flowers among its long leaves. Hanging on the trunk and branches are pods, each packed with 20 to 40 almond shaped beans. (If you\’ve ever had plain banking chocolate, you know that the taste is very bitter. In fact, the word cacao comes from two Mayan Indian words meaning “bitter juice.” Likewise, the word chocolate comes from the Mayan words for “sour water.” Today, English speaking people call cacao beans “cocoa beans” because many years ago and English chocolate importer misspelled “cacao” as “cocoa.”)

People chop the pods off the trees with long knives, slice them open and scoop out the beans. Beans are piled up, covered with burlap or leaves and allowed to ferment for a week or longer. Then they are uncovered and left to dry in the sun or under heat lamps and are finally shipped to chocolate factories (such as the Hershey factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where the whole town smells of roasting chocolate and the street lamps are shaped like candies).

At the plant, the beans are roasted and shelled. One bean is about 54 per cent far in the form of cocoa butter. When beans are ground, the cocoa butter seeps out .The liquid combination of cocoa butter and bits of cocoa bean is called chocolate liquor.

Baking chocolate is simply solid, cooled blocks of chocolate liquor. Cocoa powder is made my removing some of the cocoa butter and pressing and grinding what\’s left. Milk chocolate, the kind found in most candy bars, is made of chocolate liquor, extra cocoa butter, dried milk and sugar, with vanilla added for flavour. Dark chocolate, often know as sweet or semisweet, has everything but the milk. Technically, white chocolate isn\’t really chocolate. White chocolate has cocoa butter and sugar, but no ground-up bits of cocoa beans. So it has all the fat, but little or the chocolate flavour. The fact that white chocolate doesn\’t contain any cocoa solids means it is also missing something else: Caffeine. One ounce of dark chocolate can have as much as 35 mg of it. (A five ounce cup of coffee has more than 100 mg).

Eating a giant bar of dark chocolate can produce the same jittery feeling as a cup of coffee. Eating a big bar of white chocolate, however, probably will only make you sleepy.

How To Improve Mains Drinking Water Quality

UK mains water is perfectly safe as it is required to be food grade quality 24/7, however the water that you end up with when you turn your tap can be less than palatable. So the question is how can you get rid of the taste and odour and improve your mains water?

The main cause of bad taste and odours is ironically the very thing that makes our tap water so safe. Chlorine is used in our mains water supply as a safe disinfectant unfortunately this can leave a bad taste and odour in your water. There are regulations that limit the amount of chlorine added to tap water so that it keeps the water safe to drink, if you are in any doubt about your tap water you must get the water checked by the relevant authority. Sediment may also build up in your household pipes which can also be a cause of bad tastes and odours.

Chilling your mains water
Many experts suggest that you can chill the water by, putting the water in a covered container and chilling it in the refrigerator. This is because cold water tastes and smells better than water at room temperature. The same effect can be achieved by chilling the water using some kind of tank or direct chill under sink device or water cooler, these devises may also be fitted with a filter (see below for more information).

Filtering your mains water
There are a wide range of water filters on the market today, under sink filters for your home or office kitchen and filters that are housed in the desktop or freestanding water cooler style machines. It’s important to note that although products such as Reverse Osmosis filters and UV filters are available they are not normally required in the UK as our mains supply is very safe, if you think that your drinking water supply is unsafe and requires advanced filtration then you should contact your water authority immediately.

Activated Carbon based filters are normally sufficient to remove the bad tastes and odours from the UK mains water supply. Carbon filters can take on many forms from the common household BRITA water filter to the more advanced inline filter that can be plumbed into your mains water supply.

Activated carbon is a material that has been almost completely carbonated; typically it is produced from raw or recycled materials such as hard coal, lignite, coconut shells etc. Considered to be one of the oldest means of water purification Activated Carbon has been used to filter water for hundreds of years.

Carbon filtering works by removing contaminants and impurities, utilizing chemical absorption. By it’s very nature carbon provides a large section of surface area that attracts and holds a wide range of contaminants. Activated Carbon has a positive charge designed to attract even more (negatively charged) contaminants in your water supply. It should be noted that although carbon is effective at removing elements that cause bad taste such as chlorine and sediment it does not generally remove minerals, salts, and dissolved inorganic compounds from the water.

There are 2 types of Carbon Filter; powdered block carbon (carbon block) and granular activated carbon (GAC), in general Carbon Block filters remove the greater number of contaminants due to the larger surface area. The particle size of the filter also plays an important part in the number of contaminants removed; the sizes available typically range from 0.5 to 50 microns with 0.5 microns being the most effective removing particles of 0.5 and larger. The efficiency of the filter will also be partly dependant on the flow rate through the filter, the slower the rate the more contaminants are exposed and filtered by the carbon.

What’s the right option for you
If you are a home user you could choose between a variety of under sink filters that can dispense either chilled or tap temperature water. If you want to make an impression various counter top water coolers are also available ideal for any kitchen.

If you work in an office there are a range of plumbed in coolers the more expensive models are ideal for customer facing areas and more basic models are available for general office environments. If your office is situated in London, or if office space is at a premium then an undersink filter or chiller maybe the ideal for your business.

If you are sourcing a water cooler for use in a school then a mains connected fountain or mains connected basic water cooler are the only options to cope with the general wear and tear of school life.

Tilapia, the World’s Fastest Growing Fish Crop

Tilapia is now the fifth most popular seafood consumed in the United States according to the American Tilapia Association. It is the fastest growing aquaculture crop in the United States and around the world.

Tilapia, sometimes referred to as St. Peter’s fish (since it is thought to be the fish caught by St. Peter in the Sea of Galilee), has been farmed in Israel for about 2,500 years. There are over 100 species of Tilapia as well as a number of hybrids. Drawings of tilapia farming have been found on Egyptian tombs dating back to 2,500 B.C.

Tilapia played a very important role for the Taiwanese people after World War II. Many people would have died if the fish hadn’t been readily available as a low cost food source. It is hoped that Tilapia can be served as a protein source to help out other poor countries.

Nutrition:

Tilapia are high in protein, low in sodium, low in fat and contain Omega-3 fatty acids, anti-oxidants, B complex vitamins and minerals, including calcium, iron, potassium, and phosphorous. They also have extremely low mercury levels compared to other fish due to their short life spans.

Buying, Storage and Handling:

Purchase seafood last and keep it cold during the ride home. Fresh tilapia should have a shiny surface with tightly adhering scales. Gills should be deep red or pink, free of slime, mucus, and off-odor. The belly cavity should be clean with no cuts or protruding bones. They should have a mild aroma, similar to the ocean. Keep raw and cooked seafood separate to prevent bacterial cross-contamination. After handling raw seafood, thoroughly wash knives, cutting surfaces, sponges and hands with hot soapy water. Always marinate seafood in the refrigerator and discard the marinade when finished.

Chinese Tea

China, in addition to being the homeland to the Han people and fifty-five other ethnic groups, is also the birth place for one of the world’s most consumed beverage- tea. Tea plants originated in China and were first used for medicinal purposes. It is believed that tea plants have been in existence in China for six thousand years already. Two thousand years ago, tea was developed as a drink. Since then, the Chinese learned to grow tea plants and to use the leaves as various types of tea that we drink today. Chinese tea leaves can be separated into five categories, green tea, black tea, oolong tea, scented tea, and compressed tea.

Of the five categories of tea, green tea is probably the most well-known. It is an unfermented tea. Because green tea is not fermented, its tea leaves maintain its original and natural color. Some well known green tea include Longjing tea from Hangzhou’s West Lake region, Biluochun tea from Jiangsu, Maofeng tea from the Huangshan Mountains of Anhui Province, and Liu’an Guopian tea from Liu’an County of Anhui Province.

The black tea, unlike what its name indicates, is actually red. In Chinese, it is pronounced as “hong cha”, which literally means the red tea. Unlike the green tea, it is fermented. Famous black tea includes keemua tea from Anhui Province and Dian black tea from Yunnan Province.

Next is the oolong tea. It is half fermented. Its tea leaves, being loose and thick, are in shades of golden yellow. The most favored oolong tea is bohea tea, which is produced within the Fujian Province’s Wuyi Mountains. Other oolong tea may come from Guangdong and Taiwan.

The fourth variety is the scented tea. It is found only in China. Scented tea is created by smoking tea leaves with fragrant flowers. Examples of such fragrant flowers are jasmine and magnolia. Of all scented tea, the jasmine tae, produced in Fujian Province, is most famous. Jasmine tea is also most popular with northern Chinese and foreigners.

Lastly is the compressed tea, which is compressed and hardened into a certain shape. Compressed tea is suitable for storage and for transportation; thus it is mainly shipped to minority groups living in the border regions of China. Compressed tea can be separated into the tuo tea and the brick tea. The tuo tea is a bowl shaped compressed mass of tea leaves, produced in Yunnan and Sichuan. The brick tea is shaped similar to the shape of a brick. This type of tea is a favorite amongst the Mongolians and Tibetans.

Today, tea has grown to become a daily necessity for Chinese people. In fact, it has become a way of way. Tea drinking can promote a healthier lifestyle and the chemical compounds found in certain tea, such as the green tea, have been discovered to inhibit growth of cancer cells. Since the thousand of years in which Chinese tea has been consumed, tea drinking is only becoming more and more popular in today’s society.
